    They should base the poverty level by the region you live. $30k in NYC is definitely below the poverty level for 1 person. $30k in Alabama may be a livable wage.

    There is indirect poverty, meaning those who are just one missed paycheck away from homelessness or bankruptcy. And then there aboslute poverty, meaning those who can not afford the basics nor have access to the basics. Then there's homless vs. those without a roof over their head. You can be homless and still ha e a roof over your head, the same way you can have 0 income yet have all your needs met. This is how statistics are manipulated. Japan is a great example of this. They claim to have 0% homelessness simply because they don't count anyone that has access to a room as homless. Even if that room is a capsule hotel, an Internet café or a public bathroom. You move different categories of people around and et voila! Reduced number of poor people. Yet the problem remains the same. People still struggle financially. They're just categorised differently. A family of 3 needed 30k annually to be counted as poor. But if they make 31k or even just 30 500 per year, they're no longer counted as poor since they make more than the cut-off. To that family, the situation isn't any better.

    I live in both Oklahoma and los Angeles. 14k in Oklahoma would not cover even half your basic needs. It's probably closer to $24k

  • @WestTexasSunshine
    @WestTexasSunshine 11 часов назад

    That’s outrageous. I live in probably the cheapest city in America. I have no debt to pay and I would still need at minimum 28k a year as a family of one to cover ALL my basic needs. My rent alone is almost 14k a year. These numbers are outrageous.

    Just under $15k for a single person when the average cost for an apartment in most states is about $1,200 a month for a one room apartment. That means the one person living by themselves would be negative cash and they haven’t even eaten all year let alone paid taxes or bought necessities. The idiots running the government should be happy with themselves and all the folks who voted for these idiots should be ashamed of themselves,

    A country that owes 34.7 trillion dollars is poor. There are a few people who are rich but the country as a whole is poor living above its means until something big breaks. Then the rich will move taking their money with them to some US territory. 😂

    Buy 2nd hand people! I have 2 beautiful silk(!) dresses I can choose from for any fancy occasion, and they cost me 200€ combined. I wash them cold by hand. And yeah, here in Europe we don't really do color-coded bridesmaids, that's just silly. Sometimes guests will be asked to wear "something in this or that colour" in their outfit for the photos. So you choose a tie or a bow or a brooch in that colour, much more affordable.
